Wordless Wednesday! It's Coming.... Just saying :)

WIP Wednesday #10

This week is all about finishing Katy's pink quilt.  I had a chance to piece together flannel for the back on Saturday.  Don't you LOVE to work with flannel?  It's so soft yet I find that it sews wonderfully.  This is the back pieced together.
I then sandwiched it together and quilted a looping pattern.
I am loving how this project has come together.

Binding is up next.  Plan to use 12" - 15" strips of the fabric from the front - alternating light & dark to make a multi-fabric binding.  Hopefully this quilt will be on my finished projects list for next week.

I continued working on the two smaller versions of this quilt as well.  That's all for this week!  Have a wonderful and creative week  :)

WIP Wednesday #9

This has been a wonderful week! though I didn't get much sewing done.

Saturday we ventured into Boston for Wentworth's Family Weekend with our son, Taylor and his girlfriend Clarissa. After dinner at Qdoba's  resturant we took a school bus! to Blue Man Group.  Lucked out - I think - with 2nd row seats.  Not sure what it is that they use but there was a faint smell of banana pudding on us for the rest of the evening :)  Fun was had by all.  If you have a chance to see them it's a great show!

Sunday at home was a 'Fall Cleaning' day...  Windows washed, leaves removed (first layer anyway), etc...

At the end of the day I hid and sewed just a little....

The project I chose to work on isn't on my list so it's a 'new project' and it's Regina's 4 Patches 4 Hope project.

It's a wonderful project to help the American Cancer Society.  I know that Cancer has 'stomped' on the life of two special people in my life in the past year and a half.  We all need to help put a stop to this horrible disease!

Regina's "concept is simple - Make a 4 Patch... Make a Donation... Make a difference."  It's a unique and wonderful idea.

These are the blocks I made.
It's simple. For these I used fat quarters.  3-of the same light with 3-different darks.  6 fat quarters = 1 1/2 yards of fabric yielded 72 4" square finished 4-patch blocks!  Here are two ways these blocks 'could' be used...

And what is shown uses only half of the blocks I made...  So if Regina's making quilts for kids then this many blocks could make a quilt 36" x 32"...  add a border and you've got a quilt...

OK, so who doesn't have a couple of yards of coordinating fabric and a little time they can give to help make a difference??  Myself, I'm going to try to send Regina some blocks each month to help her wonderful project.

Well, the only other thing I accomplished this week was gathering fabric for two other blogs projects: Block lotto where it's Sampler month with blues and creams and the Valor Quilt Bee.  Hope to get blocks for both of these done this weekend. Oh and I bought some flannel fabric to back the three pink D4P quilts!  Going to be 'snuggle up warm.'

WIP Wednesday #8

This was not a very productive week.. That said I did complete one project!
Baby Rainbow Bright! DOB 10-02-2011
Her name is Baby Rainbow Bright! and she is my entry into ALQS6 where Kate will find her a new home with one of the other entries at Another Little Quilt Swap! If you have a minute take a look at all the beautiful quilts that have been created for this challenge.  What to pick... what to pick...

Ironed out the 1600 Jelly roll quilt top and worked more on the Pink D4P blocks....

Well - that's it!  that's all I got accomplished this week...  Well I did spend a couple hours trying to organize my space so that I will be able to jump right back in to work!

Baby Rainbow Bright ready for ALQS6!

This is 'Baby Rainbow Bright.'  She's the 'baby sister' to my original wall hanging: Rainbow Bright which I made earlier this year.  This 'baby' measures about: 22" x 22".

I made Baby Rainbow Bright to be a part of  "Another Little Quilt Swap 6."

As you can see the binding and back match - although they look quite different as the binding is set on the bias.  The quilt is machine pieced and quilted.  It has a sleeve across the top of the back for hanging.

Rainbow Bright lives at my lakehouse and I hope ALQS6 can find an equally lovely home for her baby sister. If you have a minute check out all the beautiful and creative quilts at Another Little Quilt Swap!

WIP Wednesday #7

So I did a lot! of sewing this weekend!  I completed the top of Katy's pink D4P quilt.  Isn't it so pretty?!

I'm making 80 blocks total and plan to make two smaller baby girl quilts to donate to Stork Project while joining Swim, Bike, Quilt in the 100 Quilts for Kids project!

And I did the 1600 Jelly Roll Race and made a quilt top.. Well I actually used a 'bali pop' instead of a 'jelly roll'...

Ok, I have to admit that I fretted the whole time...  First of all I have a complaint! and I don't complain about bali pops very often but this bali pop - Hoffman's "Cappuccino" had TWO very PLAIN very SOLID BLACK strips - no texture just plain black...  YUCK! They didn't add to the collection at all so... I started by taking those two strips out and added a couple of strips of fabric from my stash..  Then I thought - this fabric is too close to that - these two fabrics are going to get lost together...  well...  This is how it came out:

It was interesting and will make a nice throw but if you are going to do this I'd use a fabric pack in which the selection is more dramatically different from one and other...

I received the next month directions in my SVQG - Mystery Quilt which means I now have month 2 & 3 to catch up

And the mail brought me month 4? of the Sunflower Glacier Star Quilt  So I have July, August, & September to go!!!

Guilt Guilt Guilt!!!  Gotta go sew!! Have a great week!

Pink D4P Quilt is coming along...

Well I put in a bunch of time this weekend on the Pink quilt that I am working on using the D4P (disappearing 4 patch) design.

I have ended up with 4 dark and 5 light fabrics and spent hours! moving the blocks around and finally decided on this!

Well,  what do you think?

I'm planning to use 12" - 15" strips of the dark fabrics for a multi-fabric binding and hope to get this quilted next weekend.  We'll see  :)

I'll definitely get my hubby to take some better pictures when I'm done, this picture doesn't do the fabrics justice!
