WIP Wednesday #18

So...  Where did February go?  Am I the only one who completely missed it??  Actually I didn't miss 'it' I just didn't slow down long enough to blog.

Here are a few things I've been working on...

My guild had a retreat and I Started and Finished this quilt top there...
Batiks are definitely a favorite to work with so I really enjoyed this.  Add to that the Log Cabin pattern is a favorite this quilt was a pleasure to create  :)

Well, I decided to go with a different pattern with Mason's quilt when he decided to move out and get a Queen size bed.  The original quilt was to be couch size and two sided so switching to a quilt size with a plain back is what I'm going with.  This is the quilt in processes.  I looked and can not find anywhere that this block has been used so I might be an original design...  Came to me in the shower - I swear!  If anyone know of it please let me know!
Queen Size approx 96" square

I have several people who want this quilt, my husband included,
so I see myself making it again, if I ever finish this one!!

The "old" Mason quilt is on my other wall.  It's actually more 'there' than it appears as every block is actually two!!  So when it's half laid out - it will be all the pieces  :)

And lastly, we had our reveal for Challenge 2 at the Creative Conglomeration last Thursday.  This is my creation....

This is one of seven quilts revealed!!  If you have a chance check out the blog!

Magic and Imagination! When in doubt watch a child play!

The other day I went for a walk with a new friend.  About a mile from our camp there is a wonderful place called The Fells.  Below is a picture and link to their web site.

The grounds are beautiful and you could easily spend hours walking through them.  We stumbled along a very magical place known as the Fairy Village.
In this area the Fells supplies lots of Nature for children and adults to come and build wonderful Fairy Houses!  This is the gate you must pass through to enter the Fairy Village:

Looking at these creative houses I could almost imagine the fairies hiding until I went away!

This walk through the Fairy Village took me back to the days when my children were much younger and still believed in the magic of Fairies!!

Are you still a kid at heart?
I think we should all take the time to see the wonder!
Have a magical day! :)

Art Quilt

I have always been fascinated by trees.  Since I was a small child I loved to draw trees, not that I'm very good at it, just that it is so amazing how the branches grow and head off in all different directions.

Maybe it's because I am ALWAYS in SO MANY DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS AT ONCE!!

I wanted to play with the yarn in this picture and it just looked like a great 'bark' color so I decided that it would make a good 3-D tree feature.

I cut out a background piece for the tree top and two landscape pieces for the bottom and placed them on the blue fabric I wanted for the sky.  Using detailed embroidery stitches I outlined and attached the tree top to the background.  I then sewed the yarn into place to form the tree.

Once the tree was formed I used detail embroidery stitches and free-motion quilting to add dimension to the landscape pieces at the base.
Stars sparkling in the night.
I continued free-motion stitching the sky then add small Swarovski Crystals for create tiny far away stars and larger shell buttons for closer stars.
And here is the completed Quilt
It's to be one in a series...
I better get creating!!!
