WIP Wednesday {Oct. 24, 2012}

This week I made a Fall Table Topper for my parents.  I used the D4P pattern then added some gold leaves into the machine embroidery.  Happy with the outcome...

Here's the completed Table Topper - I like how the striped binding works with the other fabrics to bring the fall colors together.

Here are some in process photos:
I added gold leaves to the surface of that quilt as I was freemotion quilting.

I also continued to work on my tote bag.  I now have the front and back complete and quilted onto the base.

{- Front..................... Back -}

I'm adding the canvas bottom next then it's on to the inside.

Looking to add lots of pockets to the lining!  I am also trying to figure how I might add some threadwork to the handles as I think the added texture will make the overall look of the tote more interesting??!  More to follow!

Continuing with my Creative Conglomeration updates -
This is a picture of my Fiber Art Challenge #3 Reveal:

"Morning Glow" Marie Joerger, Created for CC#3

This was my first attempt at Cathedral Windows.  I was trying to create the image of Sunshine through a window in this piece.  I actually pieced 2 identical quilts to use in the 'windows' in place of the standard solid pieces then I cut one quilt up into squares to use inside each of the blocks then cut up the other into diamonds to use between the blocks.  Turned out to be much more involved than I thought :) but then these creative challenges usually are!  Check out all the 3rd challenge quilts!

Hope you are enjoying your Fall!
Marie

WIP Wednesday #11

Well if you are from New England then you know what kind of week this has been.  14" of snow and trees down everywhere!  We're still without power at home but are hiding at our lakehouse where the snow came but not the power outages...  Nothing like a storm to bring on the creative juices!!

I finished Katy's quilt and am thrilled with how it turned out!

And Sunday when I realized we were 'stuck' in Newbury for the night and who knows how long...  I got in the quilting groove and finally attacked the feathers on the border of Eric's quilt.  I'm so happy with how they turned out!

I also got the binding attached and have started to sew it down.  Still have the 'grid work' to go through the center of the quilt.

Have a wonderful week! :)

WIP Wednesday #10

This week is all about finishing Katy's pink quilt.  I had a chance to piece together flannel for the back on Saturday.  Don't you LOVE to work with flannel?  It's so soft yet I find that it sews wonderfully.  This is the back pieced together.
I then sandwiched it together and quilted a looping pattern.
I am loving how this project has come together.

Binding is up next.  Plan to use 12" - 15" strips of the fabric from the front - alternating light & dark to make a multi-fabric binding.  Hopefully this quilt will be on my finished projects list for next week.

I continued working on the two smaller versions of this quilt as well.  That's all for this week!  Have a wonderful and creative week  :)

WIP Wednesday #7

So I did a lot! of sewing this weekend!  I completed the top of Katy's pink D4P quilt.  Isn't it so pretty?!

I'm making 80 blocks total and plan to make two smaller baby girl quilts to donate to Stork Project while joining Swim, Bike, Quilt in the 100 Quilts for Kids project!

And I did the 1600 Jelly Roll Race and made a quilt top.. Well I actually used a 'bali pop' instead of a 'jelly roll'...

Ok, I have to admit that I fretted the whole time...  First of all I have a complaint! and I don't complain about bali pops very often but this bali pop - Hoffman's "Cappuccino" had TWO very PLAIN very SOLID BLACK strips - no texture just plain black...  YUCK! They didn't add to the collection at all so... I started by taking those two strips out and added a couple of strips of fabric from my stash..  Then I thought - this fabric is too close to that - these two fabrics are going to get lost together...  well...  This is how it came out:

It was interesting and will make a nice throw but if you are going to do this I'd use a fabric pack in which the selection is more dramatically different from one and other...

I received the next month directions in my SVQG - Mystery Quilt which means I now have month 2 & 3 to catch up

And the mail brought me month 4? of the Sunflower Glacier Star Quilt  So I have July, August, & September to go!!!

Guilt Guilt Guilt!!!  Gotta go sew!! Have a great week!

Pink D4P Quilt is coming along...

Well I put in a bunch of time this weekend on the Pink quilt that I am working on using the D4P (disappearing 4 patch) design.

I have ended up with 4 dark and 5 light fabrics and spent hours! moving the blocks around and finally decided on this!

Well,  what do you think?

I'm planning to use 12" - 15" strips of the dark fabrics for a multi-fabric binding and hope to get this quilted next weekend.  We'll see  :)

I'll definitely get my hubby to take some better pictures when I'm done, this picture doesn't do the fabrics justice!
