WIP Wednesday #20

I have been concentrating on a special project for a dear family friend so quilting has taken a backseat over this past week or two.  I have however completed my charity quilt for the next Souhegan Valley Quilters Guild fund raiser.  Each member of my guild was asked to make a mini quilt with the guidelines being that the quilt must measure 16"x16", theme 'Love, Peace, Hope," and must contain Blue!  Can't show you the quilt yet but here's a Sneak Peek at the label.

Photo credit goes to my wonderful husband Eric!! Thanks Bud-E!!

WIP Wednesday #19

Haven't been keeping up with this blog very well but here's some of what I have been up to...

I was invited to a Birthday quilting retreat for a wonderful friend of mine.  We were a group of six and spent 4 nights in Rockport, MA and had a FABULOUS TIME!!  It was so much fun spending time with friends :)  One fun thing we did was to distribute fabric to all the guests and had them make blocks for the guest of honor.  Quite a few were made but this is the only picture I have. At least you can see the colors!

I made a D9P quilt as a table top for my Mom's birthday present.  Thought it was time for some bright spring colors!

back
I also used this project to practice my Stippling for Leah Day's Quilt-A-Long.

I've also been working on my next fiber art challenge piece for the Creative Conglomeration!  Excited about this piece! The theme is yellow, with a small amount of purple.  Size 15"x15" and due next Tuesday!  No pictures yet but just imagine....
Sunshine through a 'cathedral window'....  Pictures next week!

I'll post a picture of all the blocks we made for the birthday girl when I catch up with it.

Smiles, Marie

WIP Wednesday #18

So...  Where did February go?  Am I the only one who completely missed it??  Actually I didn't miss 'it' I just didn't slow down long enough to blog.

Here are a few things I've been working on...

My guild had a retreat and I Started and Finished this quilt top there...
Batiks are definitely a favorite to work with so I really enjoyed this.  Add to that the Log Cabin pattern is a favorite this quilt was a pleasure to create  :)

Well, I decided to go with a different pattern with Mason's quilt when he decided to move out and get a Queen size bed.  The original quilt was to be couch size and two sided so switching to a quilt size with a plain back is what I'm going with.  This is the quilt in processes.  I looked and can not find anywhere that this block has been used so I might be an original design...  Came to me in the shower - I swear!  If anyone know of it please let me know!
Queen Size approx 96" square

I have several people who want this quilt, my husband included,
so I see myself making it again, if I ever finish this one!!

The "old" Mason quilt is on my other wall.  It's actually more 'there' than it appears as every block is actually two!!  So when it's half laid out - it will be all the pieces  :)

And lastly, we had our reveal for Challenge 2 at the Creative Conglomeration last Thursday.  This is my creation....

This is one of seven quilts revealed!!  If you have a chance check out the blog!

2012 Free Motion Quilting Challenge - January - Just in time!!

Quick blog to update that I have done the January portion of the 2012 Free Motion Quilting Challenge.

Here are some shots of my practice for SewCalGal's FMQ  Challenge.

Then I tried practicing on the border of  my this week's practice piece for
Leah Day's Quilt-Along

Here's the original practice with the straight line free motion quilting.

No big problems with the plain straight line sewing though I believe a lots more practice is in my future.....

Then I played with stippling tight, medium, and larger...  Then I drew lines and practiced more free motion...

And then 'stitch in the ditch'....
And..... below is the biggest problem I ran into this week....
Odd thing is that I didn't 'feel' it when it happened but found it when I tipped it over...
Thread issues!
Any ideas on what happened here???  Oh well, Unsew and resew it when I go back and get that one line I missed....  did you notice???
